Water dominated conversations in Nyamunuka Town Council as residents voiced deep frustration over persistent shortages and the absence of a reliable supply system.
Many households continue to endure severe daily struggles, with some going without clean water for essential use.
“Our people are grappling with water scarcity. We have visited them, and they cry for piped water,” said Yasin Byamukama, the NRM flag bearer for the mayoral seat.
“The roads are poor, and urgent infrastructure improvement is needed.”
Excitement swept through the town as James Hunter Tukahirwa, the NRM flag bearer for Kajara County, launched his campaign alongside local party leaders.
Supporters filled the streets, dancing and singing to campaign tunes for both Hunter and President Yoweri Museveni, creating a vibrant scene that reflected the hopes of the community.
Hunter pledged to put water and other essential services at the top of his agenda.
“I want you to send me and I bring to you services. That’s electricity, water. I must spearhead the water project to Kajara. Our district is big, and the equipment for roadworks is scarce. I will provide you with tractors,” he told residents, promising to close infrastructure gaps across the district.
He also reminded supporters to adhere to electoral guidelines.
“As candidates, we are not supposed to engage in fundraising, in roadworks, or feeding people with handouts. Let’s accept those guidelines,” he said, adding that his nomination remains secure despite a petition filed by his opponent, Venancious Ahabwe.
Other NRM flag bearers amplified community concerns. Asimwe Immaculate Asimwe, the party’s flag bearer for district woman councillor, highlighted the struggles of women and girls in the area.
“Women lack financial independence. This has exposed women and young girls to doing ‘pretty work,’ which leads to prostitution. And our town council lacks water. We don’t have any better sources of water,” she said.
The rally, held jointly by Hunter and fellow NRM candidates, presented a united front aimed at tackling long-standing service delivery challenges.
Water scarcity, unreliable electricity, and poor road networks emerged as defining campaign issues, reflecting the demands residents want addressed to improve livelihoods in Kajara.
